Ontology-driven Resolution of Semantic Heterogeneities in GDB Conceptual Schemas
نویسندگان
چکیده
As the geographic information system (GIS) community grows, more and more people needs to share geographic information. As modern GIS data is stored in geographic databases their conceptual schemas have to be, at least, interoperable. Due to the fact that the databases are designed by many different people from different countries, using different languages and maybe with different definitions for the same phenomenon there is a high probability that the conceptual schemas have semantic heterogeneities between them. In order to handle these heterogeneities this paper suggests the use of ontologies as mediators to the semantic integration. A software architecture is proposed, which handles also syntactic heterogeneities using a standard language, the GML beyond the semantic ones. A ontology that represents a subset of the geographic reality was created and a similarity matching algorithm was developed to process schemas against it. The mathematical methods of similarity measurement modeling concepts have been tuned for a set of real GDB conceptual schemas.

Syntactic and Semantic GDB Conceptual Schemas Integration
This paper presents an architecture and a methodology to integrate GDB conceptual schemas with the goal to enable the reuse as well as the interchange of them or part of them. The integration is separated in two levels. The syntactic integration consists on transforming the conceptual schemas representation to a canonical format, the GML 3.0. After that the semantic integration is performed, pr...
متن کاملConceptual View Integration for Audience Driven Web Design
In an audience driven approach to website design, the requirements of the different audiences are modeled as separated tiny conceptual schemas comparable to views. We present a new approach to integrate these conceptual views. The preparation for the integration is already done during the design phase itself. Semantic information about the concepts used during conceptual modeling is stored in a...
متن کاملCombining name and context matching for semantic integration
Interoperability is a key issue for information system nowadays. The need for integration of different sources of data is needed when working in a distributed environment as well as when thinking of use data captured in the web. In both cases data may come with heterogeneities in many aspects, and thus the integration is mandatory to allow the correct use of data. A first step in this sence is ...
متن کاملAn ontology based approach to the integration of entity-relationship schemas
In schema integration, schematic discrepancies occur when data in one database correspond to metadata in another. We explicitly declare the context that is the meta information relating to the source, classification, property etc of entities, relationships or attribute values in entity-relationship (ER) schemas. We present algorithms to resolve schematic discrepancies by transforming metadata i...
متن کاملSolving Semantic Conflicts in Audience Driven Web Design
In an audience driven approach to website design, the requirements of the different audiences are modeled as separated tiny conceptual schemas comparable to views. This has several advantages, but until now it had the disadvantage that it was necessary to integrate the different schemas derived later on. In this paper we present an approach that overcomes this disadvantage. This is done by link...
